Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - CIE Subvention.

449.

asked the Minister for Transport the amount of money made available to CIE; and how much of this money was spent on the purchase of buses.

CIE's subvention allocation for 1983 amounts to £86 million and the board's 1983 capital allocation is £60 million, of which £16 million has been allocated for road passenger projects including the acquisition of new buses. It is the responsibility of the board of CIE to determine the investment in new buses and other road passanger projects within the limit of £16 million. CIE's capital expenditure is finalised by the board's depreciation provisions, long-term borrowings, Exchequer capital advances and leasing arrangements.
