Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Interception of Mail.

456.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (a) whether, on the occasions when the Minister for Justice authorises by warrant an interception of the mail or telecommunications services, the interception is carried out by, or under the supervision of, officials of this Department; and (b) whether, on the occasions when such a warrant is issued on the request of the Minister for Defence rather than the Garda Síochána, the interception is carried out by, or under the supervision of, the same personnel.

All warrants for interception of mail and telecommunications messages received in my Department are issued by the Minister for Justice and all are implemented by the same group of staff of my Department.
