Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Hospital Service Cards.

534.

asked the Minister for Health the criteria for issuing hospital services cards to small farmers.

Hospital services cards are issued by health boards to persons who have category II eligibility for health services, that is, eligibility for free hospital consultant services, and who apply to the health board to have this eligibility established.

Eligibility is determined on the basis of income in the previous tax year. The income limit for the year 1 June 1983 to 31 May 1984 is £11,000 based on income for the year ended 5 April 1983.

Farmers, and other persons, whose income in the year ended 5 April 1983 was less than £11,000 are eligible for hospital services cards.
