Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Donaghmeade (Raheny) Garda Jurisdiction.

57.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will confirm that the area of Donaghmeade, Dublin 13, is under the jurisdiction of Raheny Garda Station, Dublin 5; and if the Raheny Gardaí are aware of their jurisdiction in this area.

Limerick East): The Garda authorities say that, while there is no townland called ‘Donaghmede’, the general area known by that name is situated entirely in the Coolock sub-district and is served by Coolock Garda station. I have been assured that the district officer at Coolock is fully aware of his responsibilities for the policing of the area.

In replying to parliamentary questions by the Deputy and by Deputy Michael Cosgrave on 16 February last about the provision of a new Garda station in Donaghmede, I said that the Donaghmede area was served by Coolock and Raheny Garda stations. That was the information given to me at the time by the Garda authorities who have now explained that in referring to the "Donaghmede area" on that occasion they included not only the area properly known as Donaghmede but also that portion of the Raheny sub-district lying between Kilbarrack Road and the Dublin-Belfast railway line which would be likely to come within the jurisdiction of any new Garda station that might be sited at Donaghmede. The position regarding the provision of such a station remains as stated in my reply of 16 February.
