Vol. 345 No. 1

Written Answers. - Mayo Schools.

362.

asked the Minister for Finance when tenders were invited for Carn National School Garranhard PO, Ballina, County Mayo; the closing date for the receipt of tenders; the reason for the delay in starting work; and when the contractor will be instructed to start.

Tenders for the extension to Carn National School, Co. Mayo, were invited on 28 February 1983 and the latest date for receipt of tenders was 30 March 1983. Following examination of the tenders it was necessary to consult with the Department of Education about the release of the case to contract.

The Department have recently indicated that the contract may be placed and the Manager of the school has now been requested to lodge the local contribution. When the local contribution has been lodged the contract will be placed and it is expected that work will commence promptly.

363.

asked the Minister for Finance if contract documents have been prepared for the construction of a new school at Culleens, Ballina, County Mayo; when the bill of quantities will be ready; and when tenders will be invited for the work.

The Office of Public Works will not be able to commence the preparation of contract documents or to appoint a quantity surveyor to prepare bills of quantities for the proposed new school at Culleens, County Mayo until the Department of Education sanctions a grant towards the cost of the project.

It is therefore not possible to say when tenders can be invited for the new school.
