Vol. 345 No. 1

Written Answers. - Attempted Suicide Prosecutions.

465.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of prosecutions that have been instituted in the course of the last twenty years against persons for attempted suicide; and the results of any such prosecution.

, Limerick East): I am informed by the Garda authorities that in the 20 years up to and including 1982 proceedings for attempted suicide were instituted in 15 cases.

Five cases resulted in convictions; in two cases the charge was found proved and an order made without conviction; three cases were adjourned sine die or otherwise disposed of; informations were refused in one case and the charges were withdrawn in the remaining four cases.
