Vol. 345 No. 1

Written Answers. - Doolin (Clare) Fish Landing Facilities.

275.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the proposals he has to provide landing facilities for fishermen at Doolin, County Clare.

The level of commercial fishing from Doolin is small and is almost entirely for shellfish operated from small craft. It is considered that the requirements of the local fishermen would best be served by improving the slipway near the pier and by providing a winch at the head of the slipway to facilitate the beaching of boats in rough weather or when they are not in use.

I would be prepared to make a grant towards the cost of these works provided that Clare County Council were willing to carry out future maintenance. I have written to the county council in the matter.
