Vol. 345 No. 7

Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial, Parliamentary and Judicial Offices (Amendment) Bill, 1983: Order for Second Stage.

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Acts, 1938 to 1977, the Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices Acts, 1938 to 1977, and the Courts (Supplemental Provisions) Acts, 1961 to 1981.

When is it proposed to take Second Stage?

Anois. I move that the Second Stage be taken now.

I asked on the Order of Business if the debate was confined to Second Stage and the Chair asked me to wait until the Bill was brought in. Could we have confirmation that only Second Stage will be dealt with today?

If it is agreed to take Second Stage now, I suppose that we should deal with Second Stage. Ordinary procedure would be, if it is agreed to take Second Stage, to proceed with Second Stage and if that Stage is carried we then inquire when it is proposed to take Committee Stage. The Deputy's question would more properly arise then.

I do not think that that is satisfactory. We should ask the Minister now to let us know if he intends to take all Stages today. This is quite a complicated Bill dealing with six different Acts and we do not have time to examine these.

The only question before the House now is that we take Second Stage now. If it is agreed, I propose to call on the Minister to move the Second Reading.

Could we have some confirmation that we will not be going into Committee Stage?

That will be a matter for the House if and when Second Stage is carried.

Question put and agreed to.
