Vol. 346 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mayo Schools.

472.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position regarding the provision of a new primary school at Kilmaine, County Mayo.

My Department have agreed that the accommodation at the proposed new school at Kilmaine, County Mayo, should consist of four classrooms and a general purposes room with provision in the plans for a fifth classroom. The Commissioners of Public Works have been authorised to proceed with the preparation of working drawings on that basis.

473.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to make funds available for work carried out on the Convent national school, Mulranny, Westport, County Mayo.

As I indicated in my reply to a previous question on 16 February, 1983, my Department have sanctioned various grants towards the cost of improvements to the Convent national school, Mulranny, County Mayo, and the question of payment is a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works.

I understand from the commissioners that certain grants have been paid and that further payments will be made shortly in respect of improvement works to the roof of the school and towards the cost of providing a prefabricated classroom. Grants for the erection of a wall cannot be made until this work has been completed.

474.

asked the Minister for Education if a grant has been sanctioned for work on the Convent national school, Achill Sound, County Mayo; the amount made available; and when it is proposed to sanction the commencement of work.

It is proposed to extend and adapt the existing Convent national school at Achill Sound, County Mayo, to provide accommodation in three classrooms and a general purposes room.

The question of sanctioning a grant for the project will be considered when the outline sketch scheme and costings become available.

An application for a grant towards urgent repairs to windows and eve gutters has also been received from the chairman of the board of management. The Commissioners of Public Works have been asked to furnish a report in this matter.

475.

asked the Minister for Education if sanction has been given to extend Achill vocational school, County Mayo; and when Mayo VEC will be allowed to seek tenders to commence work.

The proposed extension to Achill vocational school has been approved and planning is proceeding.

As architectural planning is at an early stage, it is not possible to say when tenders may be invited.
