Vol. 346 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

49.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment assistance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed on the grounds that his means derived from self employment exceeded the statutory limit. He appealed against the decision in his case but an appeals officer upheld the assessment of his means.

He recently applied for a review of his means and his case has been referred to a social welfare officer for a further investigation. When the inquiries are completed his means will be reviewed and his entitlement to unemployment assistance will be determined accordingly.

53.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason disability benefit has not yet been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

The person concerned is not entitled to payment of disability benefit in respect of his claim from 17 October 1983, as according to the records of the Department, he has not the required minimum of 26 contributions paid or credited in 1981-82, the contribution year which governs his claim. He has, however, indicated that he was employed in Great Britain during that year and his British insurance record has been requested. When this is received his claim will be reviewed. From 2 January 1984 his benefit position will be determined by the 1982-83 contribution year in which he has 52 contributions to his credit. Should he remain incapable of work he will be entitled to payment from that date.

54.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason unemployment benefit has not yet been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

The claim of the person concerned to unemployment benefit on 7 October 1983 has been authorised at the appropriate maximum rate in his case of £34.80 weekly. Inquiries were necessary to establish that as a landholder he satisfied the availability conditions for receipt of benefit. All arrears due will be paid to him this week. Weekly payments of £34.80 unemployment benefit and £3.37 pay-related benefit will continue to be made as they become due.

56.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment assistance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed on the grounds that by failing to reveal details of his means he failed to show that his means did not exceed the statutory limit. He appealed against the disallowance and his case has been referred again to a social welfare officer for additional inquiries at the direction of the appeals officer. When these are completed his case will be submitted to the appeals officer and his entitlement to unemployment assistance will be reviewed in the light of his decision.
