Vol. 346 No. 6

Written Answers. - AnCO Training Courses.

391.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware that several courses have been discontinued at the AnCO centre at the industrial estate in Bunbeg, County Donegal; and if he will give an assurance that this centre will not be downgraded further.

When AnCO decided to establish a training centre in Letterkenny, Údarás na Gaeltachta agreed to improve the Gweedore Training Centre facilities to cater specifically for Gaeltacht needs. In advance of the start-up of the Letterkenny Centre, activity at the Gweedore Centre was increased to facilitate a more efficient build up of training at the new Letterkenny Centre when it became available. AnCO now plan to provide 64 places at the Gweedore Centre with an annual throughput of 116 trainees. AnCO have reorganised their provision of courses at Gweedore to meet the needs of all Gaeltacht areas on a national basis.

The Gweedore Centre will be maintained on a permanent basis as long as local industry and Údarás na Gaeltachta can make use of the existing level of trainees. AnCO have no plans to downgrade this centre.
