asked the Minister for Transport if he will in relation to the B & I service from Cork give details of the traffic figures for each of the following categories during the period July to September 1983, inclusive: the total number of (1) passengers, (2) private motor cars and (3) commercial vehicles.
Written Answers. - B & I Services.
The information sought relates to the day-to-day administration of the B & I and is a matter on which inquiries should normally be made directly to the company. In this instance, since the service was provided by the B & I specifically at the request of the Government, I am prepared to give the relevant information which I have obtained from the company. The carryings were as follows:
—27,000 foot passengers; the figures for foot passengers include coach passengers from about 200 coaches carried on the service;
—10,500 car parties; the description "car party" which is a normal description in the travel trade implies an average of about 3 passengers per car;
—300 Ro/Ro vehicles;
—170 miscellaneous items (trade cars, tractors etc.);
—567 B & I freight trailers i.e. B & I traffic not generated by the Cork/ Pembroke service.
