asked the Minister for Health if he will recognise the Irish Chiropody Association; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is assumed that the Deputy's question relates to the Irish Chiropodists Organisation. Chiropody services in this country are mostly provided by chiropodists working in private practice and there is no statutory registration system which would indicate who is properly trained and qualified, as exists, say, for doctors, nurses and dentists. My Department are examining proposals for statutory registration of a number of health professional groups, including chiropodists and the Irish Chiropodists Organisation have had discussions with my Department relating to these proposals which are still under consideration.
