Vol. 346 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

4.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the names of all people appointed by the Government to State and semi-State boards and to other agencies and organisations under his aegis since 1 Janaury 1983; their ordinary occupation; and the remuneration which they will receive from their appointments.

No appointments of the kind mentioned by the Deputy have been made as far as my Department are concerned.

Have any people not been reappointed or dismissed from agencies?

I answered the question on the Order Paper: no appointments of the kind mentioned by the Deputy have been made as far as my Department are concerned.

I have answered the question.

The Minister may be side-stepping the question——

Has the Minister made any appointments?

The question on the Order Paper asked about the people appointed by the Government to State and semi-State boards and to other agencies——

As far as I am concerned the Minister is a member of that Government.

I have answered the question: no appointments of the kind mentioned have been made.

A direct question: has the Minister for Social Welfare appointed any people to any Department, board or agency——

If the Deputy wants an answer to that question, I suggest he puts it down in that form.

I cannot understand the answer the Minister has given because I presume the Minister for Social Welfare is a member of the Government.

The question on the Order Paper asks the names of all people appointed by the Government to State and semi-State boards and to other agencies and organisations. Question No. 5.

Did the Minister of State say no new appointments were made?

Yes, no appointments of the kind mentioned have been made.

We can assume that other appointments were made.

The Minister of State took a narrow interpretation of the question.
