Vol. 347 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bord Gáis Éireann and ESB.

14.

asked the Minister for Energy the estimated annual contribution to the Exchequer by (a) Bord Gáis Éireann and (b) the Electricity Supply Board.

In 1983 Bord Gáis Éireann contributed £75.92 million to the Exchequer.

The Electricity Supply Board have had, over a number of years, a cumulative deficit and, therefore, has not had surplus funds for surrender to the Exchequer.

Both boards would, of course, make payments under various headings which would accrue to the Exchequer each year. For example, it is estimated that the ESB will pay approximately £10 million in hydrocarbons excise duty in the board's current financial year.

How much accumulated surplus have BGÉ paid to the Exchequer in the last number of years? That is the point of the question.

I do not seem to have the figure available but I can get it for the Deputy.

What about the earlier years?

I do not have the amount for the earlier years but I will get it for the Deputy.
