Vol. 347 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ministerial Drivers.

369.

asked the Minister for Finance the names, addresses and qualifications of drivers employed by his Minister of State; the allowances and other expenses paid; and the estimated cost of travel in 1983 under the new arrangements in comparison with the cost of the provision of State cars in 1983.

One driver is at present employed by the Minister of State at the Department of Finance. For security reasons the name and address of the driver are not being released. He is being paid at a rate of £9,000 a year and will be allowed subsistence payments within a limit of £3,000 a year. The cost of travel in 1983 between 1 November, 1983 when the new arrangement commenced and 31 December, 1983 was £3,876.

I understand that the cost of the provision of transport for Ministers of State is not kept in Garda records in such a way as to enable the comparative cost sought to be given.
