asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of applications under the western drainage scheme received by his Department since the inception of the scheme; the number of applications received each year; the amount of money allocated for this scheme each year; the amount of grants paid each year; the amount of money made available for this scheme in 1984; the reasons for the delay in processing applications; the number of acres drained under this scheme since its inception; and if he will make a statement on the position to date.

The financial provision for the Western Drainage Scheme since its inception is as follows — 1979, £5.2 million; 1980, £7.4 million; 1981, £9 million; 1982, £7 million; 1983, £9 million; 1984, £9 million. Most of the other information requested was given in a written reply to Deputy Treacy on 25 October 1983.

There is no undue delay overall in the processing of applications within the area provided for under the scheme.
