asked the Minister for Education the position regarding the application for an extension to St. Patrick's national school, Castlebar, County Mayo.

My Department on 26 October 1983, sanctioned a grant towards the cost of the proposed extension to St. Patrick's national school, Castlebar, County Mayo. The further planning arrangements are now a matter for the school authority's architect working in conjunction with the Commissioners of Public Works.

asked the Minister for Education the position regarding the application for improvements to the following national schools in the Castlebar area, County Mayo; Errew, Breaffy and Derrywash.

The following statement sets out the position regarding applications for improvements in the schools in the Castlebar area referred to in the Deputy's question:

(i) Refurbishing of old building to take one class.

(i) Grants were sanctioned in August 1982 and May 1983.

(ii) Repairs to defective windows.

(ii) The Commissioners of Public Works have been asked to inspect and report.

Breaffy

Connection with group water supply scheme.

A grant was recently sanctioned for this work.

Derrywash

Improvement works to roof, windows, doors and play area.

A grant was recently sanctioned for these works.

Where grants are sanctioned by my Department for improvements, the Commissioners of Public Works are responsible for the arrangements for carrying out the works and for actual payment of grants when the works have been satisfactorily completed.

asked the Minister for Education the position regarding the application for the following new national schools in the Castlebar area, County Mayo: Ballyheane, Snugboro and Breaffy.

Particulars regarding primary school building proposals at Ballyheane, Snugboro and Breaffy in the Castlebar area, County Mayo, are set out as follows:

Ballyheane

The question of inviting tenders for the proposed new school at Ballyheane, County Mayo, is under consideration in my Department at present. A decision in the matter will be made in the very near future and will be conveyed to the Commissioners of Public Works and the chairman of the school's board of management.

Snugboro

A grant was sanctioned on 27 July 1983 by my Department for the erection of a new school comprising three classrooms and general purposes room. The further planning arrangements are a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works.

Breaffy

My Department have under consideration at present a proposal to adapt a locally built community hall and to erect a block of new classrooms. A decision in this matter will be conveyed in the near future to the chairman of the school's board of management.
