Written Answers. - Industrial Employment.

220.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if the IDA have any plans to inspect, examine and survey lands on offer to them by a person (details supplied) in County Kerry as a matter of urgency, having regard to the unacceptable high level of unemployment in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed that the Industrial Development Authority have already carried out a preliminary investigation of this site. A detailed inspection of the site will be carried out within the next month to determine its suitability for industrial projects.

221.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he is aware of the serious problem in relation to employment levels at the Killybegs shipyards, County Donegal; and the steps he proposes to take to ensure continuity of employment there.

I am aware of the difficulties being experienced by this company and of the recent reductions in employment at the yard. The Industrial Development Authority and the other relevant State agencies are co-operating closely with the management of the company in their continuing efforts to try to secure the viability of the yard and maintenance of employment there.
