Vol. 347 No. 1

Written Answers. - Group Water Schemes.

235.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of grants allocated in respect of Dunloughan group water supply scheme, County Galway; and the reason for the delay in granting final approval for the scheme.

The Department's certificate of approval which issued in respect of the Dunloughan group scheme on 29 March 1983 provisionally allocated State grants totalling £31,388 as follows:

43 domestic water

supply grants

@

£516 = £22,188

23 potential farm

water supply grants

@

£400 = £9,200

Total

£31,388

The initiative in taking further action achieving progress with the scheme rests with the group but it is understood that the delay relates to the collection of the local contributions.

236.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a decision will be made on the matters which have brought the operation of rural group water supply schemes to a halt; and if he will make a statement on future policy in relation to the operation of such schemes.

It is not correct to say that group water supply schemes have come to a halt. I would refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 286 of 15 November 1983, which sets out the position regarding the changes made in procedures and their effects.
