Vol. 347 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Investigation.

159.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in relation to the investigations by the Garda into the activities of a firm (details supplied): (a) the Garda division dealing with the investigation; (b) the manner in which evidence, statements etc. will be collected; (c) to whom those wishing to give evidence should address themselves; and (d) if a time limit has been made within which the investigation must be concluded.

Limerick East): I am informed that the Garda investigation into allegations about the firm in question is at present being conducted by the Eastern Division of the Dublin Metropolitan Area but it may be that it will have to be extended to other divisions as well.

In accordance with normal practice, persons who are believed to be in a position to supply useful information and who are willing to do so are being interviewed and invited to make statements. Anybody wishing to give information should contact the Garda, preferably the Detective Unit at Dún Laoghaire but, if that is not feasible, at a local Garda station.

No time limit has been or could properly be set for such an investigation but it is being conducted on the basis that it is desirable to have it completed as soon as practicable after which, it is expected, a report will be submitted for the decision of the DPP.
