Vol. 347 No. 10

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

310.

asked the Minister for Health the estimated cost of writing to the 85,000 persons between the ages of 16 and 25 whose medical cards are being withdrawn, informing them of the decision, broken down in respect of (a) postage, (b) printing and paper and (c) labour.

It is not possible to estimate accurately the costs involved in writing to persons aged 16 to 25 years whose medical cards are being withdrawn under the provisions of the Health Services (No. 3) Regulations, 1983.

A tentative estimate would suggest that the cost will be in the region of £50,000, consisting of £25,000 for postage, £5,000 for printing and paper and £20,000 for labour. Much of this expenditure would have been incurred in the normal course in the annual review of medical cards held by students.
