Vol. 347 No. 10

Written Answers. - Examination Fees.

333.

asked the Minister for Education if she proposes to introduce examination fees for individual subjects in the intermediate and leaving certificates thereby relieving the cost of such examinations for mature students, many of whom are housewives and unemployed persons doing single subject VEC courses.

Candidates are not admitted to the intermediate certificate examination unless they have followed an approved intermediate certificate course as a recognised pupil in a secondary school or in a national school.

Provision is made for the special admission to the leaving certificate of external candidates in one or more subjects on payment of the inclusive examination fee prescribed for ordinary school candidates. I am having the matter examined as to whether it may be feasible to introduce a fee per subject in the case of such candidates as from 1985 onwards.
