Vol. 348 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mulcair Drainage Scheme.

394.

asked the Minister for Finance if all design work on the Mulcair drainage scheme has been stopped; if so, the length of time it has been stopped; when it will re-commence; when he envisages that drainage work will actually start on the Mulcair; and if he is aware how serious the present problem is for land-owners adjoining the Mulcair.

Work on the design of a drainage scheme for the Mulcair catchment has been suspended since the spring of 1983 following a Government decision to halt all arterial drainage planning pending the completion of a review of arterial drainage policy. Further development of the design will be considered in the light of the outcome of the review which is expected to be completed by mid 1984. I am aware that flooding occurs in the Mulcair catchment but am not in a position to say at present when a drainage scheme might be undertaken.
