Vol. 348 No. 2

Written Answers. - Career Guidance Service.

510.

asked the Minister for Education the post-primary schools with a career guidance service; the number of career guidance teachers ex quota; the number and location of post-primary schools with part-time career guidance teachers or teachers with special posts of responsibility for career guidance; the number of pupils required on roll for the appointment of guidance counsellors ex quota; and if replacement guidance counsellors will be appointed ex quota on the retirement of existing ex quota teachers in schools with an enrolment of less than 500.

I would refer the Deputy to my replies of 26 October 1983 to Questions Nos. 299, 300 and 301 and of 7 February 1984 to Questions Nos. 434 and 435. It would not be in accordance with normal practice to furnish the information requested in relation to individual schools.

Schools with not fewer than 500 recognised pupils may appoint a guidance teacher outside of quota. In schools of fewer than 500 recognised pupils, guidance teachers will be brought within quota as vacancies occur in the overall teaching staff. In such schools a retiring guidance teacher may be replaced by the school authorities within the authorised quota of the school.
