asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the claims made by the Leader of the Official Unionist Party, Mr. James Molyneaux, that Irish Army officers had attended a recent NATO seminar; if the Government will undertake an immediate investigation of these claims in view of the possible implications for Irish neutrality; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The claims referred to in the question have no foundation in fact.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will list the staff courses, meetings, seminars or other events attended by personnel of the Irish Defence Forces in each of the NATO countries during 1983; the purpose, location and duration of each such meeting, seminar, course or other event; and the number of Irish personnel involved.

The following are details of educational courses, seminars, etc., attended by personnel of the Permanent Defence Force during 1983 in countries which are members of NATO.
