Vol. 349 No. 9

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

534.

asked the Minister for Education when a grant will be provided to repair the roof on Raferagh school, County Monaghan.

A report and recommendations are awaited from the Commissioners of Public Works regarding the condition of the roof of Corcreagh national school, Raferagh, County Monaghan.

On receipt of this report my Department will consider the question of whether the repair of the roof is eligible for grant assistance and will communicate with the school authorities about the matter.

535.

asked the Minister for Education if she will arrange for recoupment of higher education grants to Galway County Council within one month of payment; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to similar Questions Nos. 406, 407 and 410 answered on 24 January 1984 in this regard. The arrangement with regard to recoupment to local authorities for higher education grants is that recoupment is paid by my Department in the financial year immediately succeeding that in which expenditure is incurred. It is not proposed to alter this arrangement, which has operated since the introduction of the grants scheme in 1968.

In the case of Galway County Council recoupment in respect of its expenditure in 1983 on higher education grants was made by my Department on 10 January 1984.
