Vol. 350 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Medical Card Application.

596.

asked the Minister for Health if he will review the request of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 1 for a medical card in view of the exceptional circumstances.

Applications for a medical card were considered in August 1983 and January 1984 in this case but the family income was found to be considerably in excess of the guidelines laid down for determining eligibility on both occasions. Special medical circumstances were taken into account when these decisions were reached.

As the question of eligibility is a matter for the chief executive officer of the health board it is not open to me to intervene in his decision. However, if the family's financial circumstances have altered since the last assessment the case will be reviewed by the board.
