Vol. 350 No. 8

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

531.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give full details of the proposed reduction of group water scheme grants in western counties as and from 30 June 1985.

As a result of the EEC's Western Package grants for group water schemes in the designated western region were determined at the higher rates of 80 per cent of the cost per unit, subject to maximum grants of £600 per domestic supply and £400 per potential farm supply. These higher rates of grants were applicable originally to schemes commenced by 31 December 1983. On 12 December last my predecessor announced the extension of the scheme to enable the higher rate of grants to apply to schemes which commence by 30 June 1985. The need for any further changes will be kept under review in the light of experience of the working of the present arrangements in the intervening period.
