The person in question is awaiting fixed appliance orthodontic treatment, a type of treatment that is normally provided by dentists in private practice on behalf of the health boards. The Department have been endeavouring to get agreement with the private orthodontists on a scale of charges for this treatment and, pending the conclusion of such an agreement, the issue of authorisations to proceed with treatments was suspended. I am hopeful that the fees issue will be resolved shortly and that treatments can again be proceeded with.
