Vol. 350 No. 8

Written Answers. - Appointment of Registrars.

629.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that the Cork County Registrar is unable to carry out his duties as a result of the shortage of two registrars; and the steps he is taking to ensure their appointment.

Limerick East): I am not so aware. There is only one vacant post of court registrar in the Cork Circuit Court office. The vacancy arose on the resignation on 24 April last of the officer who had been assigned to that post. Because of the Government embargo on the filling of two out of every three vacancies in the public service, it was not possible to take any steps to fill the post until after that date.

It turned out that the post is one that may be filled and eligible officers in the Circuit Court service have been invited to apply for appointment to it. It is a matter for the county registrar to arrange for the duties of the post to be carried out pending the filling of the vacancy and I am informed that the duties are in fact being carried out.
