Vol. 350 No. 8

Written Answers. - School Transport.

631.

asked the Minister for Education if she approves of the procedure where children are taken to school on CIE school buses and are refused to be taken home because they do not have their tickets; and if she will request CIE to put an end to such a procedure because of the dangers involved for children.

Pupils availing themselves of transport under the school transport scheme are required to have valid travel permits in their possession when travelling to and from school. Where a pupil genuinely forgets to bring the travel permit, CIE may, at their discretion, allow the pupil to travel on a school bus on that occasion.

I shall arrange for discussions between my Department and CIE in regard to the aspect of the matter raised in the question from the Deputy.
