Vol. 350 No. 12

Written Answers. - Limerick Corporation Housing.

523.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason the Office of Public Works refused to allow Limerick Corporation to sell the houses at Castle Barracks, Limerick to their tenants; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The land on which the houses were built is the courtyard of King John's Castle. It is the long-term objective of the commissioners of public works to have the courtyard restored as an integral part of the castle. It will be appreciated, therefore, that the sale of the fee simple of the houses to the tenants would be totally in conflict with this objective and would remove any possibility of the commissioners regaining clear possession of the former courtyard.
