Vol. 350 No. 12

Written Answers. - Sports Centre Grant.

623.

asked the Minister for Labour the present position regarding a grant of £166,000 made available some years ago for the Tallaght area, County Dublin, for the purpose of providing a community sports facility; if he will confirm that this grant is available, and make a statement on the conditions required to enable this grant to be obtained; if any negotiations are taking place with any association regarding the allocation of these funds at present; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The capital grant of £166,000 provisionally allocated to Dublin County Council towards the construction of a sports centre in the Tallaght area in 1980 is still available to that body. In order to obtain the grant the county council will have to (i) identify and acquire a site for the proposed centre; (ii) satisfy the Department that the balance of the cost over and above the Department's grant will be available before the project commences; and (iii) make arrangements for the planning, management and maintenance of the completed facility.

Dublin County Council have had negotiations with a number of community organisations in the area in order to identify a site for the centre. Agreement has not been reached as yet. My Department have recently written to Dublin County Council requesting full details of the latest position regarding the project and is awaiting a reply.
