Vol. 351 No. 8

Written Answers. - Drainage Scheme Worker.

482.

asked the Minister for Finance if any employees of the Office of Public Works have been engaged in work which was carried out by an employee (details supplied) recently made redundant; and if any employees of the Office of Public Works are still in employment who were recruited on a date after the recruitment of the employee who has been made redundant.

The person named in the question was one of two welders employed by the Office of Public Works on the Corrib-Mask-Robe drainage scheme. Due to the overall reduction in numbers employed and the general scaling down of operations on the scheme there was insufficient work to justify the continued full-time employment of two welders. The person named in the question was the junior of the two welders and was therefore declared redundant.

Some other categories of employees who were recruited on dates after the date (25 June 1979) of recruitment of the named welder are still in employment in the Corrib-Mask-Robe scheme but no welders were recruited after that date.
