Vol. 351 No. 8

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

552.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will authorise the sanction of a farm modernisation scheme grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

This is a case of an application under the programme for western development. The claim is being processed and the grant will be paid shortly.

553.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the present position regarding a western drainage grant application made by a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

As some misunderstanding appears to have occurred in regard to the arrangements for an inspection of the proposed drainage works the case is being re-examined and the applicant will be informed of the outcome shortly. I may add that grant aid would not be payable in respect of any work undertaken without the prior written approval of the farm development service.

554.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange for immediate payment of cattle headage grants to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person named has been paid his cattle headage grant under the 1983 disadvantaged areas schemes already. He was deemed ineligible for 1983 suckler cow premium because his off-farm income exceeded his on-farm income for income tax year ended 5 April 1983.

555.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the up-to-date position regarding the application of a person (details supplied) in County Kerry for payment of an EEC cattle headage grant; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department is unable to trace any application for cattle headage grants from the person named. He is not the registered owner of the herd number quoted.

556.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if it will be necessary for sheep farmers to retain their ewes and lambs for a second reading for the ewe premium grant in October, 1984; and if he will make a statement regarding whether it is necessary to have this second reading in 1984.

The detailed regulations in relation to the 1984-85 ewe premium scheme have yet to be drawn up by the EEC Commission. Discussions on the matter have been taking place in Brussels and it is expected that the regulations will be made shortly. Details of the application and inspection arrangements will then be announced.
