asked the Minister for Health the criteria used in determining the difference between a day hospital and a day-care centre in the geriatric service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Geriatric Service.
175.
A day hospital is a facility which provides hospital services for patients without admitting them as in-patients. In the context of geriatric services, this facility may relate either to an assessment unit or to a rehabilitation unit. The services provided in a day hospital include medical investigation and treatment, nursing care and where appropriate rehabilitation services.
Day centres, on the other hand, are primarily concerned with the provision of social facilities although services such as occupational therapy, chiropody and some rehabilitation may be provided at these centres.
