Vol. 352 No. 5

Written Answers. - Horticultural Advisory Service.

237.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of horticultural advisers and instructors employed by his Department and employed by ACOT throughout the country; the total number in each county; the total number of farmers being serviced by these instructors in the country and in each county; if he is satisfied with the services available to farmers and growers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

238.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether the number of horticultural advisers for County Galway has been reduced; and, if so, the reasons for the reduction.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 237 and 238 together.

No horticultural advisers are employed by my Department. The information in regard to ACOT advisers is in the form of a tabular statement which I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

The deployment of advisers is essentially an internal matter for ACOT which is at present compiling data on the number, distribution, nature and intensity of horticultural enterprises throughout the country.
