Aid for investment in dairying under the farm modernisation scheme is limited to investment necessary for 40 cows per labour unit up to a maximum of 1.5 labour units (i.e. 60 cows) in the case of development farmers and up to 40 cows in the case of other categories of farmers.
Aid as a percentage of approved cost is as follows:

An interest subsidy equivalent to a 15 per cent capital grant is available to commercial farmers.
Recoupment is obtainable from the EEC, in respect of development farmers only, at the rate of 50 per cent of eligible expenditure in the western region and 25 per cent elsewhere.
