asked the Minister for Justice the status, if any, that is enjoyed by private investigators; if his Department lay down any regulations for former members of the security forces who subsequently become private investigators; if private investigators have access to public information; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

, Limerick East): As far as my Department and the Garda Síochána are concerned, no official status is accorded to private investigators either in relation to access to information or otherwise. There are no Ministerial or Garda regulations relating to former members of the Garda Síochána who become private investigators.
