asked the Minister for Defence if he will ensure that former members of the Defence Forces will not be denied the opportunity to re-enlist.

Recruitment to the Permanent Defence Force has been limited for some time. Waiting lists of applicants are maintained in each Command. When vacancies arise candidates, including former members of the Permanent Defence Force, will be called for competitive interview in date order of application. Those found suitable at the interview will be called for enlistment in accordance with their placing on the order of merit within each Command.

Since the current limitation on recruitment commenced former members of the Permanent Defence Force have been included in each intake of recruits.
