Vol. 352 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Galway Taxpayer's Allowance.

404.

asked the Minister for Finance the reasons that a proper complete tax-free allowance has not been granted to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; the date on which this tax-free allowance will now be granted; the total amount of the tax-free allowance; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that, on the basis of a return of income completed by the taxpayer on 30 April 1984, a correct certificate of tax-free allowances for £2,706 (=£52.04 per week — tax at table A, 35 per cent) was issued to him on 25 June. Any tax which may have been over-deducted from his earnings from the date on which he commenced employment is refundable to the taxpayer by his employer when the certificate is put into operation.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that reviews of the taxpayer's liabilities for the years 1976-77 to 1982-83, inclusive, have now been carried out revealing a net overpayment. A cheque in settlement will be issued to the taxpayer shortly.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that an amended certificate of tax-free allowances for the current year, 1984-85, was issued to the taxpayer on 5 June 1984 and a copy was sent to his former employer on the same date for use in connection with the taxpayer's retirement pension. It is understood that the certificate is being operated this week and that the tax overdeducted from the pension since 6 April last is being refunded to the taxpayer by his former employer.
