Vol. 352 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cavan-Monaghan State Forests.

25.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the plans he has to utilise the produce of the State forests in Cavan-Monaghan; and the percentage from these counties which is at present being exported.

All sawlog material in State forests in the two counties mentioned is required to serve the needs of the sawmilling market at present and in the immediate future. To the extent that surplus timber, irrespective of size, becomes available in these counties, it will be utilised in connection with the further general development of the wood-processing industry. In 1983, some 56 per cent of timber sold in the two counties referred to was puchased by mills outside the State.
