Vol. 352 No. 5

Written Answers. - BIM Grant.

38.

andMr. D. Andrews asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he is aware that an applicant for loan and grant facilities from BIM to purchase a new fishing vessel has been refused because the applicant resided in an area where some other fishermen were in default on repayment of loans; and if so, whether his approval was sought for this practice.

I am informed by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara that the performance of other vessels in an area in which an applicant resides is only one of a number of criteria used by them in assessing an application for finance for boat purchase. Those criteria which are essentially a matter for the board were not changed in any way in assessing the application in question.
