Vol. 352 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tourist Facilities.

121.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to introduce the measures outlined in the budget statement of 1984 in regard to new purchasing facilities for tourists visiting this country.

As I indicated in my budget speech, the scheme to allow for the refund of VAT on goods purchased here by visitors and exported in their personal baggage operates from 1 March 1984. Another scheme, along similar lines, has also been in operation from that date and provides for VAT relief in respect of goods delivered, on behalf of visitors, direct to an aircraft or ship departing from the State.

Details of these schemes were announced in the national press on 1 March 1984 and an explanatory leaflet setting out the scope and operation of the scheme is available from the Revenue Commissioners.
