Vol. 352 No. 8

Written Answers. - Medical Card.

501.

asked the Minister for Health if he will reconsider making a medical card available to a person (details supplied) in County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The determination of eligibility to hold a medical card is a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health board and it is, therefore, not open to me to intervene in their decisions.

However, I understand that a medical card was refused in this case as the income of the individual concerned was considerably in excess of the guidelines laid down for determining eligibility even when medical expenses were taken into account.
