asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of newspaper reports which stated that a consignment of Irish meat destined for an African state was intercepted by police in Amsterdam on suspicion of being incorrectly described for the purpose of collecting export refunds from the European Economic Community; if the incident was investigated by the Irish authority; and if investigations revealed the identity of the people involved.

, Limerick East): I am informed by the Garda authorities that certain aspects of the matter referred to in the question have been the subject of inquiries by the Garda Síochána who will be reporting shortly to the Director of Public Prosecutions with a view to seeking directions as to further inquiries or further action. It would not be appropriate for me to give details concerning the investigation.
