Vol. 352 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Roscommon School.

713.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the provision of a new post primary school (details supplied) in County Roscommon; if a site has been approved for the erection of the school; the number of pupil places requested; the number her Department is prepared to approve; and when approval to proceed to the invitation of tenders will issue.

My Department approved an extension for this school to enable it to cater for 225 pupils. Having regard to projected future enrolment trends such accommodation is considered to be sufficient to enable the school to meet the needs of the area in conjunction with the other schools in the centre. The school authorities had originally sought 260 places.

It is now suggested that a completely new building would be a more economical proposition rather than the extension originally envisaged. The matter is being examined in my Department at present.
