Vol. 352 No. 8

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

735.

asked the Minister for Labour the reason that redundancy payment has not been made to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The person concerned appealed to the Employment Appeals Tribunal for a determination of his entitlement under the Redundancy Payments Acts, 1967-1979. The tribunal allowed his appeal and decided that he was entitled to payment of a redundancy lump sum amounting to £1,775.75.

The payment of the redundancy lump sum is primarily a matter for the employer. If the employer refuses or fails to pay the redundancy lump sum, I have authority to authorise payment from the redundancy fund. No application has been received in my Department for payment from the redundancy fund.

I have arranged for the redundancy payments section of my Department to write to the person concerned enclosing appropriate forms and advising him of the procedures to claim his redundancy lump sum. If a claim for payment is received in my Department it will be dealt with expeditiously.

736.

asked the Minister for Labour the reason redundancy payments at the maximum rate have not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

The person concerned disputed the payments he received from his employer and appealed to the Employment Appeals Tribunal for a determination of the case. The tribunal adjourned the hearing of the appeal on 27 July 1984 to allow a witness to attend. The appeal has been relisted for hearing on 22 October 1984.

If the tribunal should decide that the person concerned is entitled to additional redundancy payments he may make application to be paid from the redundancy fund, administered by my Department, if his former employer refuses or fails to pay the amount due.
