asked the Minister for Communications if he will state in tabular form the number of merchandise road transport licences (a) issued on the first introduction of the Road Transport Acts, 1933 to 1978; (b) issued in each year since the first grant of licences; (c) the number of licences that were revoked; (d) the number of licences that were transferred; and (e) the number of licences still in existence.

The information requested is given on the attached tabular statement:

Notes

(a) The number of merchandise licences extant is 575 (Table A) and 780 (Table B) totalling 1,355.

(b) Many licences have been transferred on more than one occasion; about 2,770 transfers have occurred altogether.
